The Promise of Healing

It is inspired by part of Isaiah 53: 5:

By his bruises we are healed.

What is the healing that is spoken of when these words are related to the death of Jesus? I think that we need to take a step back from the cross and see the whole picture: birth, life, death, resurrection. Then we can see that the whole Christ effects the healing of reconciliation between God and humanity. If it was only the wounds, the death of Jesus would have been just another human tragedy.
