Today’s reflection from the Visual Commentary on Scripture can be found here.
To some it may seem obvious to say, but for Christians, we begin our reflection on God with the resurrection of Jesus. Everything else in our tradition, including the prophecies of Ezekiel, are seen through that lens. So this week’s reflections on the valley of dry bones and the artworks that have been considered are seen through a hopeful lens, despite the darkness that is connected to the experiences behind both Ezekiel and the artists.
Here is one of my favourite pieces of Easter music, drawing on the image from the Gospel of John of a grain of wheat sown in the dark earth and springing to new life – the grain corresponding to Jesus in this poetic image.
