At the end of this week thinking about Psalm 130, we have following the psalmist through from the depths of despair and tragedy to the light of hope and love.
Psalm 130: 7
Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
This verse is a wonderful affirmation of God’s purposes, hopes, dreams for us as his people, but perhaps also for the entire cosmos. We may only see things from our human-centred point of view, but there’s more to it.
During Lent we’ve been studying Ian Bradley’s book, God is Green, and have been discovering and re-discovering God’s care for all creation as expressed in the Judaeo-Christian tradition of Scripture and theology. We’ve also discovered how these perspectives have been squeezed out in favour of an anthropocentric entitlement to use and abuse the environment under the doctrine of extreme human dominion.
Perhaps today we can think of how Psalm 130: 7 might be about more than just us……
As you reflect, here is some wonderful music from Ralph Vaughan Williams, The Lark Ascending.
