Here is today’s reflection from the Visual Commentary on Scripture, which offers thoughts on the three artworks that we have experienced this week.

Today I’ve been reflecting on these verses of Psalm 130, which offer an image of waiting in darkness that leads to the light of dawn. That seems a very fitting summary of the sentiments of Psalm 130 that we’ve been thinking about this week. As you reflect on these words, remember that in our own lives, the darkness of night will eventually lead to the glory of the dawn, just as the darkness of the cross leads to the blazing dawn of resurrection.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.

As you reflect on these words, enjoy the tranquil beauty of the first Sea Interlude, ‘Dawn’ from Benjamin Britten’s opera, Peter Grimes.
