Show me your ways, O Lord, and teach me your paths (Psalm 25, verse 4)
Discernment is such an important part of the life of faith. In a world where there is pressure to make snap decisions amidst the fast pace of commerce and politics, taking time to reflect is often squeezed out. I often wonder whether this is the reason for so many of the challenges of our times. If we were to take the time to leave space for God to speak, sitting humbly under a sense of a greater authority than ourselves, would this lead us to different paths?
I spoke along similar lines for the Scottish Parliament last autumn during their weekly Time for Reflection slot. I mused that the distinctive window seats in the MSPs’ offices are a symbolic and practical feature that should encourage them to a more reflective practice as politicians.
Take the time today to wait before God and to consider what paths God is opening up in your life.

As you sit and reflect on today’s theme and the woodland image, enjoy this beautiful music by Peter Gregson, who is married to Laurie, daughter of our member Sally Anderson, and her husband Keith.
